Working Scientifically Examples of Work
The Working Scientifically Examples of Work provide annotated examples of work of children that are secure in each of the elements of the ‘Key learning’ for each of the PLAN Working Scientifically Skills in each year-group. They are intended to support teachers to model effectively the ‘Key learning’ for each skill to children, as well as providing a benchmark against which to assess their work.
The examples of work for each year-group do not illustrate every possible working scientifically activity for that year-group, nor do they represent appropriate coverage for a year-group. They are designed to show teachers what the ‘Expected outcomes’ for each element of the ‘Key learning’ for each skill looks like in a particular context(s), and then teachers are expected to apply that understanding to whatever working scientifically activities they do with their children.
It is not necessary for children to have demonstrated all the ‘Key learning’ in each year-group, just a sufficient amount so it is possible to provide evidence for assessment of all the ‘Key learning’ by the end of the phase.

The table below provides links to the examples of work for each PLAN Working Scientifically Skill in each year-group. Please note that some of the skills only feature in the National Curriculum in Key Stage 2.
